Varios resultados investigativos logrados durante los últimos 15 años fueron presentados y compartidos por los especialistas del Instituto de Investigaciones Hortícolas Liliana Dimitrova durante el Primer Taller Nacional Científico – Productivo de flores y plantas ornamentales que sesionó en ese centro de la provincia de Mayabeque.
La Doctora en Ciencias Agrícolas María Isabel Hernández Díaz, directora de Ciencia e Innovación Tecnológica en esa institución, manifestó que en la actualidad en Cuba la floricultura desempeña un importante rol en la economía agrícola y el crecimiento del turismo ha provocado un aumento en la demanda de flores y follajes, la cual no está cubierta por diversas razones de índole tecnológicas, económicas y productivas que pueden ser solubles.
Añadió que desde 1998 esa entidad desarrolla investigaciones orientadas hacia el desarrollo de tecnologías para la producción de flores y semillas de calidad. Se ha investigado en especies de plantas florícolas como el Crisantemo, Gerbera, Extraña Rosa, Dalia, Azucena, Gladiolo, Clavel Español y Chino, que son utilizadas como ornamento en casas, instalaciones, patios y jardines y en amplia escala para su producción y comercialización.
La especialista puntualizó que este trabajo ha permitido elaborar y difundir recomendaciones técnicas para el cultivo de las especies florícolas más utilizadas así como crear un banco de germoplasma de flores tropicales además de contribuir a incrementar su presencia y niveles productivos en las provincias de La Habana, Artemisa y Mayabeque.
Muy valiosa resultó para los participantes en el Primer Taller Nacional Científico – Productivo de flores y plantas ornamentales que sesionó Instituto de Investigaciones Hortícolas Liliana Dimitrova la Conferencia del Doctor Antonio Morales Masa del Instituto de Investigaciones Agrícolas y Pecuarias de México, centro que desarrolla un proyecto conjunto con la entidad mayabequense.
La Situación actual del mercado de flores en Cuba fue expuesta por la MSc Alicia Fernández Miranda directora del IIHLD. Mientras que la ingeniera Virginia Marrero González se refirió a la Ciencia y la Innovación Tecnológica en la solución de problemas productivos y plantas ornamentales en el país.

First National Productive Scientific Workshop on Flowers and Ornamental Plants
Several research results achieved during the last 15 years were presented and shared by the specialists of the Horticultural Research Institute Liliana Dimitrova during the First National Scientific – Productive Workshop of flowers and ornamental plants that took place in that center of the province of Mayabeque.
The Doctor in Agricultural Sciences María Isabel Hernández Díaz, director of Science and Technological Innovation in that institution, said that currently in Cuba floriculture plays an important role in the agricultural economy and the growth of tourism has caused an increase in the demand for flowers and foliage, which is not covered by various technological, economic and productive reasons that can be soluble.
He added that since 1998 that entity develops research oriented towards the development of technologies for the production of quality flowers and seeds. It has investigated species of flowering plants such as Chrysanthemum, Gerbera, Strange Rose, Dahlia, Azucena, Gladiolus, Spanish and Chinese Carnation, which are used as an ornament in homes, facilities, yards and gardens and on a large scale for production and marketing .
The specialist pointed out that this work has allowed the elaboration and dissemination of technical recommendations for the cultivation of the most used flower species, as well as the creation of a germplasm bank for tropical flowers, in addition to contributing to increase their presence and production levels in the provinces of La Habana, Artemisa and Mayabeque.
It was very valuable for the participants in the First National Scientific – Productive Workshop of flowers and ornamental plants that the Liliana Dimitrova Horticultural Research Institute met.
